Tens of thousands of visitors bike down Haleakala Volcano every year, making downhill bike tours one of the top activities on Maui. There are several different bike tour companies from which to choose, however only two are permitted to enter the National Park. We at Maui Sunriders are one of the two that still offer the original Sunrise Tour and the later morning Summit Tour (10,000 ft.)

We offer a self-paced tour which allows the rider to chose when and where to stop and for how long making the experience unique to each person needs and desires. The bike is yours to enjoy for the day allowing for a real tour of Upcountry Maui without any pressure or timetables.
As of October 10, 2007 Haleakala National Park requires all the bike tour companies to release the bike to the riders outside the park entrance. (6500 ft.)
We have two trips a day which focus on your experience, on a bike ride down the mountain for the best price, pure and simple. There is more time to enjoy the beauty of Maui, to feel free to stop at one of the many restaurants along the way, and visit the shops and galleries of Upcountry Maui. We are conveniently located in the heart of Paia Town, taking the guesswork out of finding your way back to us.
We meet at our shop. After the preliminary paperwork (and selection of equipment) is completed, we leave Paia in an air conditioned 15 passenger van for a tour through Upcountry Maui and Haleakala National Park. Our drivers are experienced guides who will provide an informative tour on the way up, so that on your ride down you will be familiar with history, points of interest, restaurants, shops, galleries and geological features of the area. While at the summit you will experience the spectacular sunrise at the 10,000 foot summit (Sunrise Tour) or view the crater and tour the National Park (Summit Tour)
Afterward, we take a 15 minute van ride drive down to the staging area (at the entrance of the National Park) and from this location the riders are free to begin their independent adventure down Haleakala and meet us at our shop (sea level where the cars are parked) to return all the equipment by 4:30 p.m.
For those not interested in viewing neither the sunrise nor the National Park, The Express is the best value day trip with van ride directly to the staging area, outside park entrance.
For experienced riders we offer more adventurous and slightly more strenuous routes (to scenic Keokea and Ulupalakua to visit Tedeschi Winery, 45 miles total, including - 6 miles uphill).
In addition to our tours we also provide the rental of all the equipment plus bike racks for your vehicle (Take out).
We cannot take beginners or pregnant women. A parent or guardian must accompany minors (children under 18). Remember to wear the appropriate clothing due to extreme cold temperatures at the Summit, especially at sunrise during Winter months.
It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to assess the riding competency of the minor.
In addition to the sunrise experience, the tour of the National Park and the downhill ride, the concept behind our activity is to provide the rider the opportunity to visit Upcountry Maui while on a bicycle. Locks are included in our equipment so that our clients can park and walk to restaurants, shops, and galleries along the route.
Our self paced tour is the only one that takes you all the way to sea level. Return the bike and go for a swim at one of Paia's beautiful white sand beaches, check out premier world class Windsurfing/Surfing spots or Spectacular Waterfalls all 5-15 minutes from our shop.
Just wanted to say thanks for our second year in a row of using your bike service. The people are always friendly and helpful, and the wife and kids have enjoyed each of our mini-adventures down the crater.
Mahalo...
